Dress Up Your Baby Orphans
This month we are making a scrap quilt out of all that small leftover stuff. You know, those little extra parts and bits that have accumulated in the orphan drawer, the extra pieces, wrong sized HSTs, and leftover partial blocks. Pick out some of those little orphans and let’s put them to work. My call for entries looked like this:
To qualify, an orphan must be 3’ finished or less. They can be as simple as one leftover HST or as complex as a small block that didn’t work out. Below are the ones that made it through my audition:
Using one or more of your baby orphans, dress it up in scraps until you have made a 9-1/2” (unfinished) block. Don’t stress! Make it larger and trim to 9-1/2”. The only requirement is that your scrap block must be made from scraps!
Digging through my Strips Bin* to dress up my little orphans was the most fun! I used a Log Cabin-ish method, but any construction will work. Wonky is fine (even when unintended as mine was).
I have made 9 blocks to get us started. OK, little orphans, huddle up! This is your final job interview:
Oh wonderful! I have a lot of contenders for this lotto. Now for the hunt and auditions…
Clapping! Clapping! I. LIKE.

This looks like such fun! Thanks!
Can’t wait to see everyone’s blocks!!!
What a great idea!
Robin, I love your 9 that you posted as samples. Made me want to find my orphans and begin right away. Thanks!
I have a drawer of orphans, and some are from past Block lotto lprojects! I’ll have to squeeze this in, with finishing a couple of quilts for the Dallas Quilt show in March.
