January’s Block – Fireball (Uneven Log Cabin)
We’re beginning a year of 6-inch blocks in 2019 with this uneven log cabin block I called Fireball.
The fabric guidelines are below and included in the print-friendly block directions. I have included directions for traditional piecing and a foundation pattern for those who prefer paper foundation piecing.
January Block – Fireball-CORRECTED
This block gives us all an opportunity to cut precisely and sew quarter-inch seams … and if you haven’t yet tried paper foundation piecing or want to brush up on your skills, it’s a great block to learn/practice.
Fabric Guidelines:
This block is made from at least three fabrics–if you are using scraps or prefer a scrappy look, feel free to use more:
Background – Light colored fabric(s) of your choice. These could be solids or prints. They should “read” as lights or low volume. Your background could be a single fabric or more, if you are using small scraps or want to create a scrappier block.
Fireball – A solid or print that is predominately red, orange or pink. Use at least two different colors/fabrics in each block–more if you like.
You may make a maximum of 9 blocks for chances in the drawing at the end of the month. The target set size for the winners will be 48 blocks.
If you make multiple blocks, you may use the same Backgroundfabric is all your blocks. You may also use the Fireballfabrics in multiple blocks as long as each block has a unique arrangement of fabrics–no twins!

The category should be blocks when you are posting photos of your blocks to enter them in the drawing; use the category sent and received when you are posting about mailing or receiving blocks; and the category show and tell to share projects you make from this block (whether they are lotto blocks or blocks you make for yourself.)
