Va Va Voom – It’s June

I’m calling this a Vee block–accepting that you all may think my imagination has run dry as I move from last month’s Tee block …

There are lots of ways to construct it, and I’ll post more about that later, but let’s start by considering Paper Foundation Piecing.

You can download the paper foundation pattern here: Vee Block Foundation

After you print it, be sure to measure to confirm that the outside square in the pattern (including seam allowances) measures 6 1/2 inches.

Fabric Guidelines

Background: a solid or tone-on-tone cream or light tan

Vees: a green solid or print that is predominately green

This time of year in New Mexico is just about as green as it gets, with many different shades of green dotting the landscape. It’s my color inspiration for this month … also a little surprising because we had snow here, the week before last.

You can make a maximum of 9 blocks this month. If you make multiple blocks, you can use the same background for all your blocks, but each should have a unique green fabric for the Vee.

Use the tag Vee when you post your blocks this month.

Quilt Layout Idea

72 x 72 inches

The quilt layout uses 52 Vee blocks and 48 plain 6 1/2-inch squares, with a 6 inch border.

  1. It’s a great looking block, Sophie! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it, so I’m calling it original. =) Green is my favorite color, too. I’ll wait to hear your other piecing ideas.

    • Thanks for the compliment, Susan. I have seen a quilt with a block similar to this which inspired my block pattern, though I could never find a name or pattern to identify and credit the inspiration.

  2. I love this block. It has a very clean modern feel to it.

    • Thanks, Barb. I think it has lots of design possibilities and now that I’m no longer commuting 2+ hours each day, I may have some time to share them 😉

  3. How many blocks may we make to enter, Sophie?

    • You can make the usual maximum of 9 blocks, Nann. Thanks for asking–I have updated the post to include that information.
