Solids in October (and fabrics for the rest of the year)
I mentioned to the sneak peekers that I wasn’t thrilled with the solid white I used for the example October block I made. Yesterday, I went to Joann Fabrics and was happy to find that their solids are currently 40% off. I also had a 20% off your entire purchase coupon, so the Robert Kaufman Kona white I bought yesterday was a real bargain. If you are in the US and need a white solid to use for October or you want to add to your solids stash, it might be worth the trip.
For October, your solids may include commercial solid lines, like the Kona Cotton I bought yesterday or Moda Bella Solids or others, and commercial or hand dyed by you solids, like Cherrywood Fabrics. You may not use white-on-white (WOW or other tone-on-tone (TOT) prints, patterned batiks or any other prints.
Since we’re all probably likely to get busy, with school or holidays, here’s what we’ll be using for the rest of the year.
In November, you’ll need BLACK (solid or a black-on-black (BOB) print) and another fabric of YOUR CHOICE. If you make multiple blocks, you may use the same black for all your blocks, but the second fabric must be unique in each block.
In December, you’ll need a non-white LIGHT (a pastel solid or TOT print or multicolor print that reads as LIGHT), plus two other fabrics of your choice which have good contrast to one another. If you make multiple blocks, you may use the same LIGHT for all your blocks and you may repeat your other fabrics as long as each block is a unique combination of 3 fabrics.
