I finally had a chance to finish my house. I hate math so opted for appliqué. It was my first time trying it so I hand sewed the doors and windows on. Not too bad for my first try but my biggest challenge was getting the folds on the windows straight instead of slanted, also wasn’t totally sure what stitch to use around the edges. It’s weird how life is merging with art at the moment. My husband, toddler and I launch our kayaks from a nearby sailboat marina. Recently I started rowing practice, same marina, twice a week. It’s fun watching the sailboats on the lake and this months block reminds me of them! I had just gotten off the lake when my phone made it’s usual whistle announcing the arrival of the sneak peak. Finally got my May block done…..the colors have more of a yellow tint to them. I’ve been making a bunch of these for my husbands quilt (top part pictured below). I’m really glad that I received the sneak peak and sewed my block before April 1. On April 2, my husband woke up and found water throughout most of the house…..fortunately insurance is paying for clean up but we did have to move out because of this: Even though the only thing ruined were the floors and kitchen cabinets, we will be dealing with contractors for a couple more weeks so I probably won’t get to sew anymore. My mother won block lotto in January and we’ve had a wonderful time together piecing the quilt with the winnings. I hope no one is offended….but since the inspiration for the quilt was tomatoes and limes and the pattern was Tall Fly, we’ve started calling the quilt ‘Tomato Flies’.
