Three Opposite Spokes

Three Opposite Spokes

The first one I pressed the seams towards the strips, finished too small.  Second one I pressed seams away from strips, also too small.  The third one press seams open and it worked out just fine – I don’t like pressing seams open!  Made another two, and obviously not paying attention, also too small.  Made a further two by cutting the initial square 9″, and the last two strips a little longer – trimmed finished blocks,...

Three Cacti pots

Three Cacti pots

I did like making these three blocks.   I initially read the instructions as one or more bright fabrics for the cactus, but not sure now if the top block meets the requirements.  They are all quite golden-yellow, not the greeny look in the photo!  Karen...

Dishes Mailed

My three blue dishes mailed to Kathie today.  Will take 10-14 days.  Post office insisted it was a small parcel and not a letter, said “they” are checking!  When asking if “they” were our postal service or the US, turns out it’s the local clearing deport making sure the clerks charge correctly.  Not sure if the extra postage this time was it went as a parcel or because our postal rates went up on 1 April, but it...

Three blocks from me for the chance to win!  I really like the block this month.  I also used the Easy Angle ruler, a very useful tool, especially if the strips are already cut, which these were!  Karen N, Cape Town....

Greenery Puzzles

Greenery Puzzles

Three blocks from me for the draw.  I enjoy making flying geese blocks, and I used two methods this time, first using the Easy and Companion Angle rulers and then the stitch and flip squares.   No extras with the ruler cut pieces, but scored 32 bonus half-square triangles with the flipped squares! I find it curious how the same solid green used in the top two blocks seems to change shade, just a tad, with the different backgrounds and other...

Hearts in transit

My three Heart blocks were sent off today at the post office to Laurie in USA, and should take about 7-10 days to travel from South Africa.  Well, having said that, the Christmas mail is over, so I do hope that they get there in less than the 39 days the Roosters took, yikes!  No pressure, but I am looking forward to seeing all of the hearts together!  Karen in Cape Town.

String Blocks in the mail

My three string blocks were sent off today at the post office to Margaret in Australia, and will take about 7-10 days to travel from South Africa.   A bit late, sorry, but how could I send them off without first showing, along with the Heart blocks, to my monthly quilt group!   (Sometimes that’s the only sewing I get done!)  I normally try to get the previous month’s ones off to the winner BEFORE making or posting about the current...

Three Red Hearts

Three Red Hearts

These are my three blocks for donation.     Sophie invited us to share the made fabric process.   This is how I did the first two. Starting with my box of strings, selected some potential strips, sew together in pairs in one direction and sewing the pairs together in the other direction – this keeps the made fabric less curved.   I try to keep one end of the strips aligned.     Like Sophie and others I like to make little HST with the...

Strings for donating

Strings for donating

Adding the extra dimension with the pieced string really makes these blocks shine.  In the past I’ve sewn a lot of strings together, but not really done much with the slabs…now I know what I will do the next time I play with strings… the 6-inch squares are a nice size. These are my three blocks for donation: Karen...

Roosters airborne

A little bit late, but I finally managed to get to the post office, and my three rooster blocks have been airmailed to Barb.  I do hope they get there soon, but expect a 7-10 day trip.  Karen N in Cape Town on a summer break.
