I loved making this block because I have a favorite oak tree that has come to the end of its life.  We have a cottage on Lake Erie that has an oak tree in the back yard that must be over 200 years old.  It is huge.  We have a great swing hanging from one of its limbs which is a well-used reading spot by everyone.  Last year we noticed that there was a black substance oozing from the bark.  This summer it is worse, the bark is starting to peel...
