My eight (with corrected blocks)
I was so enthusiastic about making these blocks that I neglected to read the instructions carefully. Here are my 8 blocks with 5 corrected – luckily I just had to swap around the...

Read MoreI’ve been on the sidelines this year after deciding only to participate when a block really appeals. This one did on several levels – love the color scheme and love the technique. If anyone is hesitating because of the curves – they are so easy. I don’t think it took an hour to do these once I had the fabrics picked out and squared...
Read MoreI enjoyed making these little blocks, but I’m not a huge fan of brown, so will donate these this...
Read MoreI love these block and the colors are so beautiful; however, proof again that I have hardly any purple in my stash – I really must go shopping. I also love the small size that Sophie has chosen this year so I don’t have to creatively fold them to fit in an...
Read MoreI made 2 blocks for the sneak peek and thought I’d wait to post them until I made a few more. But I better get them out there, just in case I forget. A great block and an excellent scrap user-upper (and yes, I’m sure that’s a...
Read MoreI had wanted to make a few more of these but this is the last of my black fabric (really must go get some more). I thought it would be interesting to use a more neutral palette compared to the jewel tones that seem the obvious choice for these stars. I think it works because of the richness of the colors I chose – I did think to try a lighter grey, but decided against...
Read MoreI love this block but seem to have run out of black fabric. The blocks didn’t photograph well (should have turned off the flash) – the two red fabrics contrast more and the darker fabric in the other block is not so blue. Hope to make some more when I get a bit more black to use. If I do, I’ll take a better...
Read MoreSpring has sprung in Auckland, just this weekend we had a sunny day with no rain at all. I know that rain and spring go together, but it’s been a wet few months and the sunshine was welcome. Unfortunately, I cannot grow tulips here because it’s too warm and wet in the winter and the bulbs rot in the ground – so, these two will have to do! I do love these blocks and they will make such a beautiful and colourful quilt –...
Read MoreGinny’s triangles were mailed from New Zealand this week. They should arrive in 1-2 weeks.
Read MoreAfter seeing Sophie’s comments for another member’s blocks I realized that I too had not used four unique fabrics on each block. Luckily, it was easy enough to unpick a few seams and mix and match my triangles into four compliant...
Read MoreI’ve made four of these and would love to do a few more if I can. I tried two different methods – I made a paper pieced foundation and this gave me good results but was a little tedious. I also cut the triangles out using a template. I made both a cutting template and a marking one and marked tiny dots to use for matching up the corners. I find with these triangles that I can’t estimate how to line them up, they will always...
Read MoreJust as I was reading about this month’s red and white theme, I was pointed to a gallery of quilts from this year’s New South Wales quilters guild exhibition featuring: you guessed it, red and white quilts. If you’d like to be inspired, check them out here.
