Sophie’s Samplers – March Progress

Sophie’s Samplers – March Progress

I already shared the Star Chain blocks I’ve made for my samplers in this post.  Here’s my collection of blocks for two quilts. I happened to have an empty design wall, so I couldn’t resist arranging them as they will be the in the quilts. The understated queen size now has a bit of aqua:   And the mystery colored throw made as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge with blocks made from shades of  blues, pinks and teals...

One for my sampler

One for my sampler

I want to make the sampler this year and practice mod piecing and colorways, but I’m short of time these days, so I’m keeping this one. If things settle down, I’ll try to do another one to add to the numbers. It was an easy block, Sophie. Your directions are...

Mod Mod QAL – Definitely NOT Low Volume but very LOUD.

Mod Mod QAL – Definitely NOT Low Volume but very LOUD.

I made the star chain blocks for my MOD MOD QAL queen-sized quilt.   Blocks are all made from scraps in complementary colors.  If the block takes more than 2 colors then I’m using black for a third color. I don’t have a design wall so pinned a paper to the modules to designate row and column placement of modules in the overall quilt so I don’t forget what I’m doing as months go by.  (Well, I might just forget anyway and...

My proposed colour way for mod mod-full

My proposed colour way for mod mod-full

I’d love some input here from those with experience-  do you feel the cream TOT as background will make this too bright and in your face?  Do you think a darker background would work better ie. a cardboardy tone beige? My Fabrics are pretty bright. I want to start sewing and I really need to get cutting but, I am not experienced and I am hesitating here…sometimes that is a red flag for me so I thought I’d put it out...

Sophie’s Bead Factory and Sampler Update

Sophie’s Bead Factory and Sampler Update

It feels a little like a Bead (block) Factory in my sewing room lately. Most of the bead blocks will be adjacent to a double chevron block in the quilt.  Here’s how my...

Beads for My Sampler

Beads for My Sampler

I have my 13 bead blocks made for the Full/Queen sized Mod Mod QAL.  I needed 4 strings of 3 beads plus a single bead.  I’m using scraps and making blocks in complementary colors.   I think this will be one wild quilt! It is so loud it may keep someone awake at night. Cathy L in IA Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting http://saneandcrazy.blogspot.com/...

this is my tentative fabric selection for the mod mod qal.  I’m thinking of the throw size.  My son and DIL like neutrals, so I hope this will work.  I may need an accent color; perhaps a dull mustard...
