Pantone’s Color of 2015 and Remembering our Bead Blocks
Remember the great color palette, suggested by Debbie, that we used for our Bead-on-a-String blocks in February and just how hard it was to find fabrics in that brownish-red color?
(If you weren’t around then, you can see photos of the blocks made by sneak seekers in my Flickr album: Bead-on-a-String Virtual Blocks
I think it’s going to become easier to find those earthy reds soon … I just saw Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015. They call it Marsala.
What do you think? It’s not a color I can wear easily, I don’t see it fitting into the decor of my house, but I loved it in combination with the yellows, golds and oranges in our bead blocks at the beginning of the year.
And I think, thanks to Debbie, the Block Lotto was ahead of this color trend 🙂
Should we try this again, perhaps in one of the other combinations suggested on the Pantone site? You can see the complete Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2015 here.
I always find it interesting to see how these chosen colors start turning up, not only in Fashion, but in places like advertising and website design.
A Big Virtual Quilt and a Big Number of Blocks
I have spent the afternoon sitting in one end of my COLD studio, huddled next to the electric heater, while plumbers work at replacing the heating system in the other end of the space (with the garage door at that end of the studio space OPEN!)
While I waited, I spent part of the day working on the virtual quilt. I’ve updated the December 1 post with the block photos from the sneak peekers and some of the blocks posted in the last couple day. The virtual quilt (also below) contains blocks made by Debbie, Helen, Jen, Kathy, Nan, Peggy, Rho, Wilma and me.
Karen posted her blocks after I was well into the process so I didn’t include them (sorry), but, on a different note, her blocks pushed us past the TWO THOUSAND block total for the year. We now have made a total of 2001 lotto blocks this year so far … or about 40 quilts-worth. It is a little mind-boggling, isn’t it?

My MOD Top
My MOD MOD top is finished. Full/Queen size in complementary colors and fabrics from my stash.
I may add a row of chevrons to top and bottom. Then the question is how to quilt.

Still here, though not sewing much
Once again, a month in which it looks like I won’t have time for lotto blocks – I sure hope I get some sewing time soon, before I explode! But it’s lovely watching everyone make (and win) blocks – perhaps in December there will be time for me to play!
Mod Mod Quilt Progress
I missed the month we did this block but, finally I have had the time to try it and catch up on the mod mod for that month! Yay! I really enjoyed making this block, it is a very happy little block. I wasn’t sure but, were we to put a dream in each center?…I did.

YeeeHaaa! little windows are all finished. I also do not know why comments are set as off? I always welcome comments!
Easy X blocks = Easy Tree Quilt
The author of the tutorial for this sweet tree quilt uses a completely different technique for making her little X blocks (AKA quilty cross stitch blocks), but look what she made from them … and think about what we could make from the Easy-X blocks!
Find the tutorial here: The Tree is Trimmed.
If you used our 7 inch Easy X blocks in this layout, you’d have a bed quilt (70 by 84 inches) … wouldn’t it make a fun quilt for a bed? I would probably add borders, some star blocks in the “sky” and maybe some birds or animals on the ground or wrapped presents under the tree …yes, my wheels are turning …
And the Winner Is … (a lurker?)
It might just be a side-effect of my long frustrating day, but I don’t recognize the name of the winner of our giveaway and I’m assuming she’s a Block Lotto lurker:
I not big on birthday celebrations, my husband took me out to a very nice dinner and surprised me that both of our sons & their girlfriends showed up. I hope you have a great birthday & enjoy whatever you want to do on the special day. Thank you to the anonymous donor for putting a prize package together.
Congratulations, Marty and thank you all for sharing your birthday traditions and celebration ideas with me.
I have emailed Marty and as soon as I’ve heard from her, I’ll be forwarding her information to our lovely anonymous give-away giver, so she can send this great prize onto her.
UDPATE:
I have heard from Marty and her quilty booty will be on her way to her soon.
Give-away today
The deadline for entering the giveaway has passed, so if you posted a comment or sent me email because you couldn’t post a comment you are in.
The drawing will be later today because I am following everyone’s advice and following up after my accident. After spending 2 hours on the phone with the insurance company who covered the car that hit me when walking across the street last week, I am now biding my time at an Urgent Care … and hoping I don’t catch anything that will make me have to cough or sneeze–two things that are most painful right now.
As soon as I am home, I will choose the winner of that fabulous quilter’s basket of goodies.
