Three beads on a string
Three Bead blocks
6 beads
No maroon in my stash and very little yellow and orange. These are pretty much outside my color range. Although I actually like the block, I’m undecided as to whether or not I actually like making the block. Made some of my 13 QAL blocks first to try it out. Might try other methods with the other QAL blocks I have left. The only other circle blocks I’ve made in my life (Dresden block centers and a pillow center) were faced. I...

I love this block! And, it’s so easy to make. Thanks for choosing my favorite color combo, Sophie! Here are three beads I made today. I have six more cut and ready to start sewing. I made the three so I could be sure to post them to get the entries into the giveaway that ends soon! http://www.blocklotto.com/2014/02/tic-tac-toe-giveaway...

I don’t trust my machine applique ability so these were hand sewn down. Then I watched the videos posted that made it look easy. I don’t know if I will get more done or not. The maroon is a problem here too…don’t have a whole lot of it. So 3 is the number for now....

These little darlings inspired me and...

Dug into my scrap boxes yesterday for fabrics for this month’s block. Yellow, no problem; orange, got some of that, too; maroon…hmm. My first thought was a reddish purple color, found one of those. Then I looked it up online, where it is defined as a reddish brown color. Found one that fits that description better. In the end I used them both – diversity makes good quilts, right? So here are 6 for me, if the colors are...

Have you noticed all the great tips everyone has shared in their process of making the Bead-on-a-String block? I thought I’d pull them together in this post for anyone who is looking for more information (and visual aids) for making this block. Andrew shared a link to a very detailed YouTube video which walks through the appliqué method that I call faced appliqué, How to Do Almost Invisible Appliqué by Machine. You might want to make...

Camera loaded this morning so these are 6 more Beads on a String blocks. Which I love, even with a color combo I wouldn’t have put together. It makes me realize I need to practice what I preach about stepping out of your color box. I’m a better quilter for the challenge. I do like the pieced circle technique, too. This block brought out that old favorite technique that I hadn’t used for a while.
