Crushing on Star Chain

Crushing on Star Chain

I am crushing on this Star Chain block!  I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna win these blocks! They would be perfect in a quilt for my sister.   The little hourglass square were so cute.  I started with 3.5″ squares and trimmed down the completed hourglasses. Everything went together very well, thanks to all those early testers and Sophie’s updates.  Here are two completed Star Chain blocks and some fabric I pulled to make two more. Put...

Someone emailed me yesterday and asked for help making the Quarter-square Triangles (QST) that form the points for the star center in this month’s block.   She was cutting them larger and trimming to size and kept ending up with points that were a little unequal. I realized that the main reason that I, personally, usually do NOT cut larger when making these is because trimming them to size can be fiddly because you have to make sure the...

I initially liked the contrast but after it was sewn together the chain didn’t contrast as much with the green. It was a good lesson on color! Thank you Sophie! Helen W Nashville,...

Two blocks this month

Two blocks this month

I had fabric picked out when I received the sneak peak, but I had to pack everything away because we were showing the house on the weekend. When I finally could sew (make a mess) I realized that none of the darker green pieces I had were big enough. So, I’ve gone for lighter greens which I love and I have many to choose from. As always, these are great blocks and will make an amazing quilt. I definitely think we will be seeing a few...

One block only for March

One block only for March

Here is my one lonely block for March.  It looks like a twin to one of Peggy’s blocks.  My green fabric is directional and I thought I might have a problem with having all the ‘waves’ go in one direction.  However, with a little planning it all worked out well, even the star in the middle. I purchased fabric yesterday for a niece’s graduation quilt, and I really need to concentrate on that project.  However, I’ll...
